- Magnetic Reed Float Switch (Most Common): Consists of a central steel or nylon rod containing a magnetic reed switch and a chemical-resistant floating ring. As ink levels drop, the float drops, closing the circuit to signal the main board to activate the primary ink refill pump.
- Dual-Stage / Multi-Pin Electronic Level Sensors: Features multiple stainless steel pins dipping into the fluid at different depths. It tracks electrical continuity to recognize three critical thresholds: Low Level (Trigger Refill), High Level (Stop Refill), and Overflow Level (Emergency System Shutdown).
- Optical Prism Sensors: Uses an infrared LED and a receiver prism. When ink covers the prism, the light refracts into the fluid; when the ink drops, the light reflects back to the sensor. These are common in high-end systems because they have zero moving parts to jam.
